Sanjay Dutt’s recent photograph with his daughter, Trishala Dutt, has drawn attention not only to their affectionate bond but also to a striking interior feature: expansive glass windows framing New York’s illuminated skyline.
Sharing the picture on Instagram, the actor wrote, “No matter how old you get, you’ll always be my little girl. Happy birthday @trishaladutt love you always.”
The understated interiors, combined with the sweeping city view and evening light, demonstrate why floor-to-ceiling glazing continues to feature prominently in contemporary luxury homes.
According to Imran Khan, Concept Designer and GoldLeafing Artist at The Gold Leafing Studio in Mumbai, these windows lend residences a sophisticated, metropolitan character while making rooms appear more spacious, particularly in compact apartments.
“Floor-to-ceiling windows create a sleek, metropolitan, and sophisticated character and make spaces feel larger, particularly in apartments where floor area may be limited,” he says.
Beyond their visual appeal, large glass panels allow daylight to penetrate deeper into interiors, reducing the sense of confinement. “It complements contemporary luxury interiors, especially when paired with stone, wood, metal, and refined upholstery, bringing in natural light—the biggest luxury they bring. Large glass surfaces allow daylight deep into the room.”
Windows overlooking a skyline, garden or open landscape can also become an integral part of the interior composition. “They create a strong connection with the outdoors, making the view feel almost like an extension of the room,” Khan explains.
Maintaining this aesthetic over time depends largely on the surrounding design choices. “The concept of floor-to-ceiling glass itself is relatively timeless, but the detailing around the glass can make it look either contemporary or outdated,” he says.
Khan recommends slim, neutral window frames and uncluttered architectural lines instead of elaborate profiles. Classic furniture can provide longevity, while smaller decorative accessories offer opportunities to experiment with changing trends.
Window treatments deserve equal consideration. “Full-height curtains can make the windows feel more architectural and elegant while also adding softness,” he says.
Practical planning is equally important, especially in densely populated cities. “Privacy also needs to be planned from the beginning, particularly for urban homes and apartments overlooking neighbouring buildings. Sun control and thermal performance are essential. High-performance glazing, solar-control glass, and appropriate shading add a modern contemporary touch to the interior,” Khan says.
Ultimately, thoughtful detailing, suitable glazing and balanced furnishings help preserve the appeal of floor-to-ceiling windows beyond passing design trends.
