Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has introduced a limited-edition Aqua Line Passport priced at Rs 250, offering commuters and visitors a new way to explore the city’s underground Metro Line 3. The initiative marks the first anniversary of full-route operations and combines public transport journeys with a commemorative stamp-collecting experience.
The passport features postcard-style illustrations and dedicated spaces for collecting stamps from 10 designated stations. Available on a first-come, first-served basis, sales began on October 16 at 11 am. Payments are accepted only through digital modes. MMRC has not disclosed the initial stock or confirmed whether additional copies will be issued.
Ten Stations Included in the Stamp Trail
Passengers can purchase the passport at designated stations along the Aqua Line and collect commemorative stamps during their journeys. The participating locations are Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CSMT Metro, Worli, Siddhivinayak, Dharavi, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), CSMIA–Terminal 2 and Marol Naka.
The initiative is aimed at regular commuters, tourists and metro enthusiasts interested in collecting a souvenir while discovering different parts of Mumbai. MMRC has described the passport and multi-station stamp trail as a first-of-its-kind initiative in India’s metro sector.
Aqua Line Marks One Year of Full Operations
The launch coincides with the completion of one year since the entire underground corridor became operational. Connecting Aarey JVLR with Cuffe Parade, Metro Line 3 links several commercial, residential and transport hubs across Mumbai.
MMRC reported that the corridor had recorded 7,20,88,738 cumulative passenger journeys during its first year of full-route operations. In September 2026, average daily ridership stood at 2,24,602 on weekdays and 1,31,138 on weekends. The corporation also recognised some of its most frequent passengers during the anniversary celebrations.
Time Capsule Planned for 2036
As part of the milestone commemorations, MMRC has also announced plans to open a time capsule on October 8, 2036. It contains photographs, records, memorabilia and milestones documenting the development and early operations of Mumbai’s first underground metro line.
The capsule is intended to preserve the corridor’s history for future generations, while the passport initiative offers passengers a tangible memento of their journeys on the Aqua Line.
