The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished portions of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn’s bungalow in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood following alleged unauthorised construction. The action was taken on October 17, days after the civic body issued a stop-work notice directing that the activities be discontinued.
Spread across 7,802 square feet, the bungalow is situated in Kapole Co-operative Housing Society in Juhu, a prominent residential locality in Mumbai.
According to the BMC, construction-related activities, including internal alterations, the installation of partition walls, window modifications and other structural changes, were being undertaken without the required municipal approvals. The civic body issued a formal notice on September 10 under Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, ordering an immediate halt to the work and seeking the submission of valid documents.
However, officials reportedly found that construction continued despite the notice. Subsequently, civic authorities stepped in and removed the portions identified as unauthorised. Visuals from the site showed officials using hammers to break down sections of the structure as part of the demolition drive.
Meanwhile, Devgn is also facing scrutiny over his appearance in a Vimal Elaichi advertisement. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued show-cause notices to the actor, along with Shah Rukh Khan and Tiger Shroff, in connection with the advertisement.
Maharashtra FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe, widely known as ‘Singham’, stated that the investigation was prompted by concerns that the advertisement could potentially act as surrogate promotion for a banned product.
The civic action comes as Devgn’s crime thriller franchise, Drishyam, continues to draw audiences. The third and final instalment, directed by Abhishek Pathak, was released in theatres on October 2 and has reportedly crossed the Rs 400-crore mark at the worldwide box office. The film has received largely positive reviews, with critics praising its performances, suspense and unexpected twists.
