Coastal Road Project In Mumbai Resumes Work And Will Be Operational In May 2024

The completion date for Mumbai’s Coastal Road project has been delayed from November 2023 to May 2024, according to officials from the Mumbai Municipal Council (BMC). This decision was taken after tunnelling work was halted for three months due to damage to a part of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), with the spare part only available in Italy

With 72% of the project already completed, it was deemed unlikely that the remaining 28% would be finished by the initial deadline. The 10.6-kilometre Coastal Road project will feature twin tunnels, each running for 2.07 kilometres from Priyadarshini Park to Girgaum Chowpatty. The north-bound tunnel from Priyadarshini Park to Marine Drive will be 2,072 metres long, while the south-bound tunnel will be 2,082 metres long due to a slight curvature in the route
