The stations on the newly-commissioned Metro lines — 2A and 7 — will soon have rooftop solar panels, said officials of MMRDA Thursday. The MMRDA, which constructed these two Metro lines as a part of its 300 km Metro network in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, proposed setting up of the rooftop solar panels at 13 stations on Line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) and 17 stations on Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar Andheri)
Apart from the 30 stations, the MMRDA has made the rooftop of the Charkop depot available for the solar panels. A total of 7,100 kW solar power generation has been proposed by the MMRDA. Of the total, the panels on Line 2A will contribute 2,600 kW, those atop stations on Line 7 will generate 2,000 kW and the panels on the roof of the depot will generate 2,500 kW solar power, said the officials. The MMRDA under the RESCO (Renewable Energy Service) model intends to set up the rooftop solar panels for a period of 25 years
