MHADA sends notices to cess buildings that are in a dangerous condition

The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) has started sending notices to cess buildings in South Mumbai, which are in dangerous condition or are beyond repair. MBRRB is an undertaking of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). The board has asked landlords /owners of such buildings to submit proposals of redevelopment within six months of issuance of these notices

Failing which, the board will ask the tenants and occupants of the proposed co-operative housing society to submit the proposal for redevelopment. Cessed properties are those, in which the tenants pay a tax to the housing authority, MBRRB. This tax is used for repairing such buildings. Arun Dongare, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MBRRB said since June they have started sending such notices through their ward offices. “This is being done so as to obtain proposals from such cess buildings which otherwise remain untouched despite the structure identified as dangerous.”
