The Kanjurmarg land where the erstwhile MVA government had proposed to construct a Metro car shed belongs to the state government, so the transfer of 15 hectares to the MMRDA for Metro-II car shed is valid, revenue minister Radha-Krishna Vikhe-Patil told the legislative council last week. Last year, the Centre had asserted its ownership and title over the land.
“As per the orders of the Konkan divisional commissioner, dated May 21, 2015, and then revenue minister, dated November 1, 2018, it is clear that the Kanjurmarg land belongs to Maharashtra government…so the the transfer of land to MMRDA is valid,” Vikhe-Patil said, in a written reply to a question raised by Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab. “After MMRDA took possession of the 15 hectares in April, the Centre’s deputy salt commissioner took objection to the land survey, and was informed by the Mumbai suburban collector that the land belongs to the state government.”
