An eight-year-long fight over relocating three families who were coming in the way of the expansion of the 9km Khar- Goreagon stretch on the Western Railway has ended with an amicable settlement.

In phase I, a 9km stretch between Khar and Goregaon will become operational in a few months and in phase II, a 11km line will be added till Borivli by 2025. There is still no clarity on the status of the other 10.8km line between Khar and Mumbai Central.Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) handed over tenements to three project-affected peoples (PAPs) from Vile Parle on Friday. The PAPS have been given alternative accommodation under the R&R policy at Malad.
