Following the launch of the Navi Mumbai Metro (NMM) project Line 1, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is gearing up to expand its metro network with two new routes in the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA). These routes are designed with the aim of boosting connectivity to the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and the broader city. This move is part of City and CIDCO’s comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) for the region.
CIDCO has initiated the tender process to appoint a consultant for the CMP to pave the way for these projects. This is a crucial step to secure grants from the central govt for these initiatives. CIDCO vice chairman and managing director Vijay Singhal has allocated Rs 539.37 crore to NAINA region development and Rs 690 crore for metro expansion in the region in its recently presented annual budget. Encompassing 174 villages within a 25-km radius of Navi Mumbai International Airport, NAINA covers 371 sq. km.
