Following its announcement of the redevelopment of Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar in Ghatkopar, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has now invited bidders for the hiring of a project management consultant and an architect. June 18 is the deadline for submissions of tenders.
Scattered over 75 acres near the Eastern Express Highway, Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar is one of the biggest slums in the eastern suburbs. It makes up over half of the population of Ghatkopar East, together with Kamraj Nagar, another sizable slum area. Development Control and Promotion Regulation 33 (10) of 2034 shall govern its development. After it is constructed, Kamraj Nagar will be able to use Ghatkopar to connect Thane and Mankhurd via the Eastern Freeway.
