Six Months Post Work Order, BMC Awaits Approvals for Key Link Road Projects

Six months after issuing work orders for the Versova-Dahisar Link Road (VDLR) and the Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road (DBLR), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is still waiting for the necessary approvals. These projects, estimated to cost over Rs 20,000 crore, are planned as extensions of the Coastal Road, which currently runs from Marine Drive to Worli. Later this year, the Coastal Road will extend to Bandra via the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

The projects require permissions from several authorities, including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), the Maritime Board, and the Bombay High Court. Additionally, modifications to the Development Plan (DP) are needed. The delay in obtaining these approvals has stalled progress, highlighting the significant bureaucratic challenges in advancing major infrastructure projects in Mumbai.
