BMC Chief Challenges SRA’s Development Permissions, Seeks State Intervention

Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has accused the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) of encroaching on the BMC’s jurisdiction as the planning authority. In a letter sent this month to the SRA’s CEO, Gagrani highlighted this concern and has now escalated the issue to the state’s Urban Development Department (UDD).

Gagrani stated, “The Development Plan and Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) 2034 apply to both the BMC and SRA for issuing permissions. The SRA has not formulated separate regulations for its jurisdiction. Issuing development permissions beyond its authority violates the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. This action is legally unsound and infringes on the BMC’s powers as the Planning Authority.”
