According to the response to an RTI inquiry, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) have not entered into any agreements about the 12 Ha casting yard at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai for the Atal Setu. This is startling because MMRDA has been using the land for the Rs 17,840 Crore bridge project for almost six years, according to B N Kumar, Director of NatConnect Foundation, who submitted the application. This correspondent’s inquiries were not answered by CIDCO representatives.
In relation to his current complaint before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against suspected environmental infractions in the assignment of a 10-acre area from the casting yard for the Tirupati Balaji temple on Ulwe coast, Kumar requested information on the terms of the land lease agreement. MMRDA notified NatConnect that as no contract had been signed, no information could be given.
