The Bombay High Court has set a deadline for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make three additional burial grounds available for the Muslim community in the eastern suburbs by December 2024.

A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar has instructed the BMC to develop a Muslim burial ground at Deonar, spanning 2977.54 square meters, by the end of 2024. The bench also mandated the civic body to complete a feasibility study of a plot of land at Rafiq Nagar, a former dumping ground, within one month.
