Unfinished SRA projects may be finished by Mhada, MMRDA, and CIDCO: Devendra Fadnavis

On Thursday, the state government declared that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) could take up the unfinished Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made this statement in response to a query about SRA projects in the Legislative Council.

According to Fadnavis, “the SRA is a market-driven scheme.” Builders who profit from the project’s sellable element provide free homes to slum inhabitants. Even in cities like Nagpur and Pune, this is not practical at all. Given the scarcity of land in Mumbai and the profitability of the saleable component, it is doable there. Every city requires a distinct strategy from the others.
