A court in Mumbai has decided in favor of the Borivali West church, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, safeguarding a 1,309 square meter parcel of property designated for a public park. The property is close to the ancient Mandapeshwar Caves.
The conflict started when the church was approached by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in an attempt to acquire a property for a public garden. Although the church was prepared to donate the property for public use, it was not in agreement with the BMC’s proposal to get Transferable Development Rights (TDR) in exchange.
