By year’s end, BMC is required by the Bombay High Court to construct additional cemeteries in the Govandi-Deonar region

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been urged by the Bombay High Court to address the issue of Sunni Muslim burial places being lacking in the Govandi-Deonar area. The BMC responded by assuring the court that measures are being taken to comply with the requirements. In response to a lack of space, lawyer Shamsher Ahmed Shaikh and other locals filed a petition, which was recently examined by a division bench presided over by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar.

The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to address the issue of the paucity of Sunni Muslim burial grounds in the Govandi-Deonar area. In response, the BMC told the court that steps are being made to ensure compliance with the standards. Lawyer Shamsher Ahmed Shaikh and other residents filed a petition due to space constraints, and it was recently reviewed by a division bench chaired by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar.
