The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been designated as the planning agency for more than 600 villages in Raigad and Palghar districts, neighboring Mumbai. This decision was formalized through a government resolution passed by the state urban development department on Tuesday.
The newly defined boundaries of MMRDA extend to the Pen tehsil of Alibag and the southern part of the Patalganga river on the eastern side. To the south, the boundaries now include Khalapur, Pen, and Alibag. Additionally, several areas within Palghar district and Vasai taluka have been incorporated. Consequently, MMRDA’s jurisdiction has expanded from 4,355 sq km to 6,355 sq km.
