After years of setbacks, the long-anticipated redevelopment of the Krantiveer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Hospital in Vikhroli’s Kannamwar Nagar is now underway. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a work order to the appointed contractor on July 8, with construction slated to begin in the coming days.
Shut down in 2018 due to its deteriorating condition, the hospital will be transformed into a 13-storey, 500-bed super-speciality facility, with an estimated project cost of Rs 593 crore. The new hospital will provide both regular medical services and specialised care in areas such as cardiology and gastroenterology.
BMC officials state that the hospital will cover an area of 37,789 square meters, with staff quarters located in a separate 21-floor building encompassing 5,782 square meters. The hospital will feature a total of 500 beds, and construction is projected to be completed within three years from the start date.
