MHADA issues notices for the redevelopment of 849 hazardous buildings that have been deemed unsafe

The majority of South Mumbai’s 14,000 cessed buildings have been rated as unsafe to highly dangerous, which increases the risk of building collapses during the rainy season. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is responding by enforcing strict procedures to guarantee the security of inhabitants.

MHADA is warning the owners and occupants of these hazardous structures to come forward for rehabilitation as a precaution. In the event that neither side responds, MHADA will seize these structures and start the redevelopment process on its own. 849 building owners have received notices to yet, and 41 landowners have submitted suggestions for renovation.
