MMRDA Asserts PWD’s Responsibility for Andheri East Flyover Repairs

In the ongoing dispute between the MMRDA and the BMC over the responsibility for repairing the deteriorating Jog flyover in Andheri East, the MMRDA has clarified that the flyover falls under the ownership of the Public Works Department (PWD). The MMRDA highlighted a 2015 Bombay High Court order that assigns repair responsibilities to the PWD.

In a letter dated July 25, MMRDA’s chief engineer, D.M. Chamalwar, emphasized that the PWD had transferred the Western Express Highway (WEH), which includes the Jog flyover, to the MMRDA for maintenance from 2017 to 2019. In 2022, the MMRDA handed over the WEH responsibilities to the BMC.
