Mumbai Flyover Crisis: Urgent Repairs Needed as Slab Falls

An alarming incident involving a falling slab from the Andheri flyover on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway (WEH) has prompted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to urgently request repair assistance from the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). This incident, which resulted in a driver being injured, has intensified concerns regarding the safety of the Jog Flyover.

A recent audit by the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) uncovered that the flyover’s superstructure is in poor condition, necessitating immediate repairs. However, the BMC has been reluctant to undertake these repairs due to a legal dispute with Hiranandani Constructions Pvt Ltd (HCPL), the company responsible for the flyover’s maintenance since 2005.
