The continuing survey in the twin city is encountering strong opposition from residents in certain areas covered by urban renewal plans (URPs), almost a year after the state government gave the go-ahead for its implementation.
After the urban development department released a notification last year, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) made maps of 24 URPs (450 hectares) available for the much-anticipated cluster scheme. This scheme will primarily help the occupants of unsafe and dilapidated structures to revitalize the city’s infrastructure completely by following the example of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), which became the first city in Asia to implement the scheme.
In addition to the utilisation of advanced technology such as distometers and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones equipped with light detection and ranging (LiDAR) equipment, the procedure also entails conducting a physical biometric survey, assigning numbers, validating building documentation, and creating a database of eligible recipients.
