Mumbai: Society Meeting on the SRA Project Sparks Violence

A sixty-two-year-old father claimed that during a society meeting called to debate an SRA project, he and his two sons were attacked by fourteen persons, four of whom were women.

The old person was heard telling another woman in the community to accept the money and the apartment that the builder had built in Andheri (West), when the argument started, stated Khar police.

The senior citizen said in an explanation of his conduct during the meeting, “three of us were attacked by the members despite my sons’ attempts to dissuade them from hitting me.” Later, a lady society member also filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the elderly man and his sons had physically abused her and torn her T-shirt while they were at the meeting.

According to a police officer, the building’s secretary, had previously given the go-ahead for a builder to begin the redevelopment project with the members’ approval. The society members had first approved the SRA project in 2010 after the builder made an offer of an Andheri flat and Rs. 6 lakhs. The locals, however, subsequently expressed their wish to stay in Khar and refused the offer.
