Government pushes the 20-year-old SRA project

A long-standing Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA) project in Andheri (West) has gained momentum after 20 years of stagnation when the state government directed the creation of a new list of qualifying slumdwellers and their biometric survey.

In accordance with Section 13(2) of the Maharashtra Slum Areas Act, the SRA has ended the work assigned to the developer designated for Basera SRA CHS.

According to Section 13(2) of the Maharashtra Slum Areas Act, 1971, Respondent Ms. EM-EL Ashok Enterprises is hereby terminated as developer with relation to Basera SRA CHS, according to the SRA order. Basera SRA CHS is free to select a new developer in compliance with SRA policies, rules, and regulations.

Locals complained to Satam about anomalies in their eligibility for the Basera SRA program back in 2019. “I then brought up the matter in the legislative assembly and with the SRA, and I followed it with vigor. In response to my requests, a new biometric survey was carried out in November 2019, and the results were released in March 2020. The study brought to light a number of irregularities”, he claimed.

Following Satam’s inquiry, Devendra Fadnavis, the then-household minister and deputy chief minister, declared that the outdated Annexure II would be removed on an individual basis.
