According to the complaint made by NatConnect Foundation on the PMO Public Grievance website, the PMAY projects have emerged close to mangroves, mudflats, and intertidal wetlands, especially in the Mansarovar and Kharghar districts.
Green groups have complained to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the residences that the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) erected in Navi Mumbai under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (PMAY) that violated the mangrove buffer zones and environmental regulations.
According to the website’s status report, the complaint has been forwarded to Arvind Kumar Agrawal, Director of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). To support its argument, NatConnect included the most recent Google Earth image together with real ground photos.
The 50-meter buffer line must be maintained, and no mangroves should be impacted during the project’s construction, according to the MoEF&CC’s environmental clearance statement. To reduce any fugitive dust emissions or other debris directed towards the mangrove area, a dense stand of tall trees with foliage is expected to be present along the buffer line.
