The Palghar Collectorate and Western Railway have begun the process of assuming ownership of the assets for the fifth and sixth lines connecting Borivali with Virar. It is anticipated that the lines will ease traffic on the fast corridor, which will only be used by suburban trains.
Vasai tehsil will need to purchase 122 properties, for which the procedure has already started, according to Palghar district collector Govind Bodke. “There are plans to build larger platforms at Vasai station,” he stated. “The railroads want a portion of salt pan land, business space, and housing society areas. They possess a portion of the land.”
An advertisement for the purchase of properties in Divanman, Achole, Navghar, Manikpur, and Umela was released by the railways on August 7. While some of these plots are used for agriculture, others are home to housing societies.
The project has a sanctioned cost of ₹2,184.02 crore and is located on the Western Railway corridor. The alignment has been finalized, the drone survey has been finished, and the estimate, plans, and drawings have all been approved. All significant major and minor bridges have approved plans. Western Railway expects the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) to begin work on the project by December 2027.
