The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to build a double decker bridge across Vasai Creek between Bhayander and Naigaon, potentially creating first-of-its-kind infrastructure in Mumbai. The bridge connecting Bhayander-Naigaon Metro will have three lanes and a length of 4.98 km, with a width of 30.60 m.
This creative construction will be a singular engineering marvel in the state, with a road for automobile traffic on the bottom deck and a metro rail on the upper deck. It is anticipated that the project will greatly increase connectivity in the Vasai area.
On July 9, 2024, Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Chairman of the MMRDA, approved the project. As a result, the consultant is working on an integrated plan and structural design for the bridge and metro in this regard.
The bridge’s dual-purpose design will save time and money while providing an affordable answer for the mobility demands of the area. As the project’s consultant, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will make sure that all engineering and safety criteria are met. This is an ambitious project.
