Cabinet Approval to Complete Postponed SRA Projects by Government Agencies

Government organizations such as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, City Industrial Development Corporation, Maha Housing, Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp and MahaPreit, and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation are now able to take up and finish Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA)-stalled projects.

The state cabinet approved a proposal to this effect on Sunday, opening the door for the completion of 228 SRA projects that had been put on hold and included nearly 218,000 apartments. The state legislature had previously examined the topic during its monsoon session. However, several bureaucrats objected to the choice, claiming that government organizations that were permitted to resume abandoned projects lacked the necessary experience in redeveloping impoverished areas.

Additionally, the cabinet approved a cluster development project in Thane, the chief minister Eknath Shinde’s hometown. For the project, the state-owned Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy & Infrastructure Technology Limited will issue bonds and equity totaling ₹5,000 crore. This project will cost ₹6,049 crore and will be spread over areas like Tekdi Bungalow, Hajuri, Kisan Nagar, Chavindra and Pogaon. The project includes an electric vehicle park, medicity, mangrove park, chemical hub and a digital university.
