At Malad station, a new 1.4 km Down local line has been put into service along with the block. From 10 p.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. on Sunday, a rail block was in place on the Up and Down slow lines between Goregaon and Kandivli stations.
Facilitating the building of the sixth line between Goregaon and Kandivli stations was the block’s main goal. The obstruction affected suburban train services, so late-night travelers who chose to return home by car or Metro encountered traffic or other inconveniences. According to sources, a number of passengers chose to take Metro lines 2A and 7, which run nearly parallel to the WR, on their way home from work. A frequent passenger described the aftermath of the rail block as “crowds waiting for autos and buses, as well as in Metro trains.”
“All Up and Down slow line trains were diverted to the fast lines between Borivli and Goregaon stations until early Sunday morning,” stated WR chief spokesperson Vineet Abhishek. As a result, a few suburban trains were canceled or had short stops. Additionally, a few delayed Churchgate-Borivli services were reversed and short-terminated from Goregaon station. The Up and Down Mail and Express trains experienced delays of up to 20 minutes due to the jam.
At Malad station, a new 1.4 km Down local line has been put into service along with the block. During a 10-hour shift, more than 400 laborers performed tasks related to the engineering, signal and telecommunication (S&T), and electrical departments. Five JCBs, one porcelain machine, two tamping machines, two tower wagons, and three ballast hoppers were among the heavy equipment used.
