The construction of a world-class art gallery in honor of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena and a legendary leader of Maharashtra, is proceeding slowly, nearly four years after the state government approved the allocation of Rs. 25 crore for this purpose. Based on the current pace of construction, the scheduled gallery opening in the third week of September may not happen.
Sanjay Katkar, the municipal commissioner, asserted that weekly assessments of the work’s advancement were conducted to guarantee the project’s prompt conclusion. “Several organizations have been engaged in the building and other necessary tasks to guarantee the art gallery’s completion within the designated timeframe. After the project is finished, an occupancy certificate (OC) will be given, and state government representatives will be contacted to request guidance on the inauguration timetable, according to Katkar.
Constructed on a vast 1.80 lakh square feet plot of land tagged as a social forest reservation in the Golden Nest area of Bhayandar (east), the majestic structure is designed to showcase the iconic leader’s life and times through a blend of modern age technology.
In addition to amphitheaters, museums, e-libraries, music centers, study rooms, multipurpose halls, conference rooms, and cafeterias, the memorial will have special galleries that will feature a collection of the Shiv Sena supremo’s chosen political and social cartoons, rare photos, editorials, and digital copies of well-known speeches in various languages, all made possible by multimedia audio technology.
A number of environmentally friendly projects, such as solar-powered energy systems, turbo-ventilators, a small garbage recycling unit, and rainwater harvesting, have been planned on the land that will be used for minimal construction work and the remaining portion will be paved. While the replica of Raigad Fort will serve as an entrance to transport visitors to Shivaji Maharaj’s era, for landscape gardens and greenery.
