CIDCO Calls for Tenders on Kharghar-Belapur Coastal Road to Strengthen NMIA Links in Navi Mumbai

For the design and construction of the Coastal Road, which would link Jalmarg Sector 16 in Kharghar with Belapur, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has issued an invitation to tender. After the contract is awarded, the project is anticipated to be finished in 30 months, including the monsoon season.

The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change’s (MoEF&CC) Expert Appraisal Committee approved the construction of this road’s Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) in August. Direct connection to the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is made possible by this approval.

The 9.679 km Kharghar Coastal Road (KCR) project is being carried out by CIDCO, and of that, 2.986 km are already connected by roads. Both ground-level reclamation and stilt construction will be used on the new road. The Coastal Road would run from Jalmarg Sector 16 in Kharghar to the PMAY Housing Scheme next to the railway station in Kharghar, and then it will continue to the underpass close to Delhi Public School in Nerul, per the bidding document. It will connect Kharghar station to Belapur by running parallel to the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Apart from offering easy access to the airport, the newly constructed road is expected to mitigate traffic congestion on the Sion-Panvel Highway. “The route will begin at Jalmarg, Kharghar, cross the Sion-Panvel Motorway through an interchange, and then use the 30-meter-wide roadways that are now in the CBD of Belapur to run between Sectors 10, Kharghar.

Additionally, it would use a vehicular underpass to cross Amra Marg (National Highway 348A), go along a grade road beside the creek, join the elevated road at the Nerul Water Transport Terminal and finally join Palm Beach Marg close to Delhi Public School (DPS),’ the source continued.

Concurrently, work has already started on the 5.8 kilometre Ulwe Coastal Road (UCR). The NMIA and Atal Setu will be directly connected by this elevated road.
