The last phase of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) cable-stayed bridge construction is now complete. One of the most important components of the SCLR project is the bridge, which is being built at Vakola Nala on the Western Motorway close to CST Road. With intentions to construct the bridge by the end of November, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started preparing to complete this last phase.
On the Western Motorway the SCLR is being expanded from CST Road to the Vakola Bridge. An essential link for commuters, the new cable-stayed bridge will connect the Western Motorway with the Dahisar direction. It is going to be the nation’s steepest curved bridge, with a severe curve and an orthotropic steel deck.
The girder portion of the bridge is already finished. The bridge will now have a steel deck erected, necessitating the blocking of traffic on the Western Motorway. In order to prevent any significant traffic interruptions, MMRDA has scheduled this block and is making the required preparations.
In 2016, MMRDA began working on the SCLR project, which is scheduled to be finished in 2019. However, the project has undergone four extensions as a result of numerous delays. As of right now, MMRDA has fined the contractor Rs 2.5 crore for missing deadlines. Officials now anticipate that the route will be open by December despite these difficulties.
