Wadala’s Korba Mithagar slums will be redeveloped by MSRDC

The state government has given the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) the job of redeveloping the Korba Mithagar slums at Wadala after initiating the redevelopment of Ramabai Colony in Ghatkopar under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The MSRDC released a call for bids on Monday in order to select consultants for the redesign plans. The completion of stalled SRA projects has been requested by numerous government organisations, including MMRDA, MSRDC, MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation), and CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra). It is our responsibility to finish 46 projects totalling 27,000 hutments. Among them is Korba Mithagar, according to Anil Gaikwad, managing director of MSRDC.

While certain portions of Dharavi have seen development and the construction of buildings, Korba Mithagar remains devoid of structures, according to local MLA Kalidas Kolambkar. Varadarajan Mudaliar, the don of the underworld, used to rule this area.

“This patch from Wadala East to Bhakti Park was earlier salt pan land and is also called Sangam Nagar,” NCP Mumbai vice president Milind Yavatkar stated. Following the 1992 riots, there was an encroachment on these salt pans. Many political figures attempt to exert control over the region, and many builders are motivated by the desire to turn a quick profit.

Yavatkar continued, saying that the reconstruction of the Korba Mithagar slums has been expertly planned. He stated that there are numerous tracts that were owned by the central government, which may cause disputes over land ownership between the state and the centre.
