The state cabinet has accepted a proposal to allot land owned by the state government to the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) to construct dwellings for project beneficiaries. The land is in Malad’s ‘Aksa’ and ‘Malvani’ village sections, part of Mumbai’s Borivali district. According to the government, 140 acres of land in ‘Aksa’ and ‘Malvani’ villages will be assigned to DRP/SRA after recovering 100% of the current market value.
The cabinet meeting, headed by CM Eknath Shinde, concluded that the DRP can request the necessary land from the Mumbai suburbs collector after the number of illegal slum occupants is determined. The land acquisition process will be governed by the state government’s policy decisions as well as the rules outlined in the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act.
This is not the first time the state government has donated land to the DRP. Last Monday, the state cabinet approved the use of 255 acres of salt pan land in Mumbai to build dwellings for slum people displaced by the Dharavi redevelopment project. The salt pan region consists of Kanjurmarg (120.5 acres), Bhandup (76.5 acres), and Mulund (58.5 acres).
