The historic and commercial district of Kalbadevi and Zaveri Bazaar is ready to enter a new age. Following a recent meeting between Financial Expert Bharatkumar Solanki and engineers from BMC’s DP Plan department, it is apparent that Mumbai’s commercial district will soon become a globally benchmarked ‘Dream Corridor.’ The entire region from Kalbadevi Road, Vitthalwadi Corner, Cotton Exchange, to Shekhmemon Street’s Mahajan Gali, LK Market, Satta Gali, Tel Gali, and Vithoba Lane would be redeveloped under this proposal.
This plan involves the development of a space resembling a foreign city. When the neighbourhood is redeveloped, old, decaying buildings will be replaced with skyscrapers, cutting-edge shopping complexes, and lush public spaces. These buildings will include air-conditioned shops and cutting-edge amenities like Wi-Fi and amphitheatre systems, transforming the neighbourhood into a competitive worldwide corporate hub. Furthermore, the commercial centres along this corridor will compete with European cities’ malls and street-shopping experiences, giving a modern and comfortable setting for both merchants and customers to shop and conduct business pleasantly.
This ‘Dream Corridor’ will attract not just Mumbai residents, but also international tourists and investors. The renovation of Mumbai’s historic streets and markets will position the city for the future as a global business and cultural hub. To make this vision a reality, BMC and the relevant departments are completely committed, and the blueprint for this strategy will be available soon. Once implemented, this region will represent a new face of Mumbai, raising the city’s profile to new heights.
