A new bridge is planned to replace the old, outdated structure at Irla Nullah, near the Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) development in Mumbai. This new bridge will considerably improve the area’s infrastructure by increasing traffic flow and functioning as a feeder route to the Mumbai Coastal Road.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will manage the construction after the previous bridge was ruled dangerous and unfit for repair in 2022. The project’s projected cost is INR 10.24 crore. A civic official from the BMC’s bridges department stated that, although designated hazardous, the bridge could not be completely blocked due to its role as the only route connecting Moragaon to the JVPD region. As a result, temporary measures were implemented.
Work on the new bridge is likely to begin as soon as the BMC receives a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for traffic diversion from the Mumbai Traffic Police. According to a city official, the project should create little traffic disruptions because it will be completed in stages, with one lane closed at a time. Traffic can also be redirected down a lane behind Chandan Cinema, near the PVR multiplex.
The project is scheduled to last 15 months, and M/s Samruddhi Enterprises has been given the contract. The current bridge spans 22 metres, matching the width of the nullah below, and the replacement construction will keep similar dimensions. This new bridge will increase connectivity for inhabitants in Moragaon, Juhu, and the adjacent districts.
