On Friday, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared that the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station in Mumbai would be redeveloped. In order to strike a balance between historical value and current requirements, the project intends to maintain the station’s legacy while adding contemporary amenities.
Old buildings have been removed to make room for new amenities, and work on new construction has already begun. Upgraded passenger amenities and roomy waiting rooms are features of the redesigned CSMT.
Vaishnaw underlined that 132 stations nationwide are undergoing extensive reconstruction, with CSMT serving as a showpiece project that reflects Indian Railways’ emphasis on fusing modernity and legacy.
Vaishnaw announced the opening of the first Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Mumbai, an effort to promote India as a leader in creative technology worldwide.
With cabinet permission already in place, the Maharashtra government has given the institute land in Goregaon. Following the elections, the foundation stone will be placed, signalling the start of what Vaishnaw referred to as “a benchmark for the world.”
A forward-thinking vision for the city is shown in the reconstruction of CSMT, the growth of Mumbai’s local train network, and the founding of IICT. These projects seek to improve Mumbaikars’ quality of life while enhancing Mumbai’s standing as a global centre for innovation and connection by fusing cultural preservation, technology development, and capacity expansion.
