A temporary walkway will soon link Terminal 2 (T2) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with the adjacent Mumbai Metro Line 3 subterranean station, therefore alleviating commuter discomfort. Due to ongoing work for Metro Line 7A, which will connect Metro Line 7 (Gundavali-Dahisar) to T2, travellers currently have to walk a nearly 15-minute round.
By December 2026, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is in charge of the project, hopes to have Metro Line 7A finished. The planned walkway will expedite access between the airport and the Metro station in the interim, greatly cutting down on travellers’ trip time.
On November 26, the site was visited by senior officials from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), MMRDA, Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), and the urban planning department. “Aseem Kumar Gupta, principal secretary, of the urban development department, has directed all agencies to expedite the walkway’s construction above the Metro 7A site to enhance the commuter experience,” said a Metro spokesperson.
Until Metro Line 7A is operating, the temporary structure should offer much-needed relief.
