To increase accessibility for commuters at the Aarey-JVLR station on Line 3, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced the construction of a new pedestrian crossing across Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). On October 7, passengers could begin using the first phase of Metro 3 between BKC and Aarey-JVLR.
Travellers have found it difficult to get to the closest bus stop due to the absence of a suitable pedestrian pathway. There are major safety issues as commuters must manoeuvre between oncoming traffic, which includes SUVs and large vehicles like buses, dump trucks, and cement mixers.
MMRC posted on X (previously Twitter) to address these problems, saying, ‘To increase safety, a pedestrian indicator light has been placed, together with cat eyes and rumble strips to ensure motorists yield to pedestrians’.
To improve Metro 3 passengers’ last-mile connectivity, BEST has set up new bus stations close to the Aarey-JVLR station. These stops will serve routes (C-60, 307, 403 Ltd, 425, and 428, among others). A spokesperson for BEST said, “This move aims to provide better last-mile connectivity and improve the overall travel experience.” Commuters now have more options for transportation because 16 bus lines pass through these locations.
