Eight buildings in Airoli have been demolished in the last two days as part of the City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (CIDCO) increased efforts to stop illegal construction. All building owners had received letters from CIDCO under the MRTP Act, but builders continued work, therefore CIDCO took action.
In Navi Mumbai, illegal construction is becoming a bigger problem, particularly in the villages and the longer gaothan areas where the number of unapproved constructions is increasing quickly. There are now the most unlawful buildings and an increasing number of unauthorised shanties in the Ghansoli and Gothivli regions.
Land mafias are terrified as a result of CIDCO’s stepped-up crackdown on unlawful developments. A three-story structure in Sector 16 was demolished as part of the measures taken against three encroachments in Ghansoli on Tuesday and Wednesday. Several unapproved tin shelters were among the five buildings in Sector 10A of Airoli that were attacked on Monday.
The public has been warned by CIDCO’s Chief Vigilance Officer, Suresh Mengde, to abstain from unapproved building or encroachment.
