The second section of Mumbai’s Metro 3—the BKC-Colaba—will open by May, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said to the legislative council on Thursday.
“In Maharashtra, metro construction has accelerated. The final phase of Mumbai Metro 3’s construction has now begun. The first phase is now open to passenger traffic. From BKC to Colaba is the second stage. Mumbai will have a true lifeline during this era. 17 lakh passengers will travel as a result. So far, 6 lakh people are travelling, because the connectivity is not complete. By May 2025, we’ll open Metro 3 (Colaba to BKC),” Fadnavis declared.
In October, PM Narendra Modi launched a number of additional infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area and officially opened the Aarey–BKC first section of the underground Metro 3. The Aqua Line’s 10-station segment between Aarey and BKC, which included nine subterranean stations, was built for Rs 14,120 crore. It is anticipated that the Metro 3 project will reduce traffic and offer a vital transit connection between the city centre and the suburbs, eventually serving about 12 lakh passengers every day.
Metro 3 will connect to existing metro lines, monorail, suburban rail, inter-city rail, and the international airport. It will stretch from Navy Nagar in the far south to Aarey depot in the city’s north-central area.
