The Mumbai traffic police are expected to approve the resumption of building on nine transport and infrastructure projects of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The decision to provide clearances followed a meeting between Anil Kumbhare, the joint commissioner of police (traffic), and Sanjay Mukherjee, the metropolitan commissioner for MMRDA, on Monday. MMRDA said in a statement that the approval of 17 critical licenses for nine major projects, including the Sewri-Worli Connector and important metro projects, was the result of this important discussion.
The extension of traffic permission for the entire Line 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale), the installation of a height gauge near the Milan Subway junction at S V Road, the traffic diversion permission at Bandra on the Western Express Highway and the traffic diversion permission at the Bandra metro station on S V Road are the four necessary permissions for the Mumbai Metro 2B.
For Mumbai Metro 6, four approvals have been requested. These include the following: permission to divert traffic at IIT Powai; permission to extend the permit for the Mahakali Caves-to-Powai Lake segment; permission to divert traffic from Saki Vihar to Rambaug; and permission to divert traffic at one of the intersections along the corridor.
The relocation of the signal pole on Acharya Donde Marg, the closure of Acharya Donde Marg while the girders are being launched, and the closure of Elphinstone Road are all necessary for the Sewri-Worli elevated link project.
In certain cases, the deadline for obtaining these licenses has been more than six months. The Hindustan Times has previously reported on the awaiting approvals from the Mumbai traffic department due to some reasons, including the two 2024 elections.
