Nargis Dutt Nagar, the biggest slum in Bandra, is about to undergo a significant renovation project that is expected to bring in Rs 10,000 crore. Under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) program, Roshni Developers and Godrej Properties are leading the Bandra Reclamation project.
The renovation would include 3 to 4 BHK homes with a sea view. While Godrej Properties will create a free-sale component covering 10 lakh square feet, Roshni Developers will oversee the rehabilitation of 1,515 slum families over 5.4 lakh square feet. Welfare centres, libraries, medical facilities, community centres, and better traffic access via the encroaching D P Road are among the amenities.
Families continue to worry about relocation, despite developers’ assurances of adherence to SRA guidelines. 851 households were found to be eligible for rehabilitation as of September 2024, and work is still being done to see whether other families qualify as well. According to sources, SRA will also give eligible renters a regulatory corpus of Rs 40,000.
