The recently elected Maharashtra government has chosen to resurrect the ambitious project, six months after the previous Mahayuti government put the 802-kilometer Shaktipeeth Highway project on hold because of strong stakeholder resistance. Public Works Department (PWD) officials have been directed to continue project planning, which intends to link Nagpur and Goa.
From Pavnar in Wardha district to Patradevi in Sindhudurg, the Rs 80,000-crore motorway will travel through 11 districts, including Wardha, Yavatmal, and Kolhapur. Nearly 8,100 hectares of the 8,419 hectares needed are private agricultural property, which has caused political leaders and farmers to protest for a long time.
He emphasised how the highway might improve communication, increase travel, and open up commercial prospects. The Chief Minister also stressed how crucial it is to uphold excellent building standards to promote the state’s tourism industry and economic development.
Along with improvements to the Nashik-Mumbai National Highway, Fadnavis also ordered the timely completion of important infrastructure projects, such as the Mumbai-Pune Motorway and the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg. Additionally, plans for a new seven-story structure in the Mantralaya neighbourhood were started.
Fadnavis strongly emphasised implementing the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and embracing cutting-edge technologies to guarantee efficiency and transparency in the land acquisition process. Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, the minister of public works, reaffirmed the dedication to high-quality buildings, giving priority to passenger amenities like women’s bathrooms on highways.
An important step towards improving Maharashtra’s connectivity and infrastructure has been taken with the resuscitation of the Shaktipeeth Highway project. The government hopes to guarantee the project’s timely and high-quality completion by resolving stakeholder concerns and putting in place an open, technologically sophisticated strategy. It is anticipated that this project will improve communication throughout the state, encourage economic growth, and increase tourism.
The government’s dedication to promoting comprehensive growth and enhancing passenger convenience is further demonstrated by complementary initiatives to upgrade current infrastructure.
