Mumbai Metro Line 4 Budget Jumps To Rs 1,274.80 Cr, Faces 5-Year Delay

The construction of Mumbai Metro Line 4, which would link Wadala and Kasarvadavali, is now expected to cost Rs 1,274.80 crore, a 50% increase. Initially estimated to cost Rs 2,632.25 crore, the project has been delayed by five years and is severely constrained by finance. This material was made public in response to an RTI application submitted by activist Anil Galgali.

RInfra-ASTALDI and CHEC-TPL were given the construction contract for the 32.32-kilometre elevated route in April 2018. The 30-station project was initially intended to be finished by July 2021, but it is now anticipated to be finished by August 2026.

By connecting important transit hubs including the Central Railway, Eastern Express Highway, and other metro lines, Metro Line 4 aims to increase urban mobility. But as Mumbaikars wait for the project to be finished, worries about poor management and inefficiency are intensifying since expenses have now surpassed the budget by almost 50%.
