The Navi Mumbai Aerocity Master Plan will be draughted by a consulting firm chosen by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) through a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Covering 344 square kilometers, CIDCO, Navi Mumbai’s New Town Development Authority (NTDA), has been essential to the city’s planned growth. The company is now in charge of building Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), one of the biggest greenfield airport projects in India. It is expected to handle 2.5 million tonnes of cargo and 90 million passengers a year.
NMIA will create India’s first urban twin-airport system in conjunction with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA). Through a Special Purpose Company, CIDCO is taking part in the project, which is being carried out using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) format. In order to facilitate simultaneous operations, NMIA’s 1,160-hectare complex has two parallel runways with full-length double parallel taxiways. By April 2025, the first phase should be operational, and it is almost finished.
The construction of infrastructure to support aviation-related enterprises, hospitality, retail, and institutional facilities is required as a result of the anticipated increase in demand for premium commercial spaces following the airport’s opening. In order to take use of NMIA’s economic potential, CIDCO has planned to build a modern Aerocity on 270 hectares next to the airport.
Financial services, corporate headquarters, export-oriented enterprises, aerocentric warehouses, and a range of auxiliary infrastructures, including hotels, clinics, schools, residential complexes, and entertainment venues, are all intended to be housed in Navi Mumbai Aerocity.
The chosen consulting firm will carry out market and financial feasibility studies, create a development plan, design the Master Plan, and offer transaction advisory services for the Aerocity project in accordance with CIDCO’s RFP. An open, competitive bidding procedure will be used to select the consultant.
In India, the idea of aerocities is gaining traction, with airports serving as the focal point for the planned development of fully integrated economic districts. There are already nine Aerocity projects in India, totalling 14,000 acres, according to recent research by 360 Realtors and Axon Developers.
