Karnala Bird Sanctuary Revamp: More Fun, More Comfort, More Nature!

The Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Panvel Taluka is scheduled to undergo a significant infrastructural renovation with the goal of improving amenities and the visiting experience.

An expanded children’s play area with a multi-activity system, more sitting options, life-size Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) animal statues, and an open gym for fitness aficionados are just a few of the new amenities that will be included in the Rs 54.17 lakh renovation. The goal of the project is to enhance visitor amenities while maintaining the sanctuary’s natural beauty.

The 1,200-hectare sanctuary is still a well-liked spot for those who enjoy the outdoors. Range Forest Officer Narayan Rathod claims that because of the site’s large volume of visitors, some improvements are made every year. “This year, money was set aside expressly for infrastructure upgrades. Work started in December 2024 after approvals were given in November,” he said.

To keep things clean and convenient for guests, the renovation also includes new trash cans and better restrooms in addition to recreational improvements.

Sanctuary officials expect more visitors after the improvements, as over 75,000 were seen there last year. It is anticipated that the renovations will be finished by the end of February 2025.
