Lower Parel Residents Warn Of Infrastructure Collapse Amid Rapid Development

In a notice to the BMC and police, residents of a Lower Parel tower stated that “all these new constructions will tremendously increase human and vehicular traffic and burden the existing infrastructure.” They demanded that clearances for new buildings in the area be halted until the infrastructure is upgraded.

A massive parking lot that can hold between 300 and 400 vehicles is being built on Phoenix Mills’ property. The area’s whole infrastructure system is also at risk of collapsing if these activities continue. The city’s economy is severely hampered by the escalating traffic issues, which also impact air pollution and people’s travel experiences. Chaitanya Mehta, managing partner of Dhruve Liladhar & Co., sent the notification on behalf of the society.

The traffic jam at Senapati Bapat Marg, particularly on a small road beneath the bridge close to Phoenix Mall, was another issue raised by the locals. They claimed that it was now challenging to find their way out of the area.

According to Deepak Jain, chairman of the Phoenix Tower B-Wing housing society, “we are also complaining about the authorities’ lack of effort to think in terms of solutions for the existing traffic problems in the area – and we aren’t even talking about the impact after the 40-plus storey office buildings are built.” “Because of heavy and unregulated traffic, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes for residents to enter and exit,” the notification stated.

“In the event of a medical emergency or accident or fire, such obstructions will delay emergency medical treatment or services and/or entrance of fire engines and ambulances into our clients’ property. Our clients have repeatedly complained about the same. However, to date, no remedial steps,” it added. Civic officials refused to comment on the issue.
