The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is working quickly to complete the construction of two major flyovers near Mahalaxmi Railway Station by October 31, 2026. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar visited the site today and gave officials instructions to maintain progress even during the monsoon season.
As part of Mumbai’s infrastructure development initiative, a flyover is under construction on Dr. E. Moses Road, while a cable-stayed flyover is being built on Keshavrao Khadye Marg. The latter, spanning 803 meters, will be the first cable-supported bridge by the BMC over railway tracks, linking Saat Rasta to Mahalaxmi Maidan. Additionally, another flyover from E. Moses Road to Dhobi Ghat in Worli will extend 639 meters.
Bangar emphasised the significance of coordinated building activities and careful planning to expedite work. The cable-stayed bridge’s 78-meter-tall pylon should be finished in seven months, and the bridge spans should take about 250 days. To protect the trees in the project area, alignment changes have been made.
Certain houses and businesses will be affected due to the construction, and BMC has instructed the relevant ward departments to expedite relocation efforts. Additionally, the corporation has assured that slip roads and alternate routes will be maintained to minimise traffic disruptions during the construction period.
When completed, these flyovers should significantly lessen traffic in the Mahalaxmi neighbourhood, improving commute comfort for Mumbai residents.
